Laura S asked: I had a miscarriage 2 weeks ago. I started to show early because it was my 2nd pregnancy (1st is now 5year old daughter who ROCKS) I am also small framed so my belly showed as early as 3 weeks. I miscarried at 9 weeks. Now I have this “baby weight” that during my first pregnancy I got rid of by breastfeeding but now I am not sure how to do it. Its just all belly and it is gross! Anyone else expierence anything similar? Thank you.

The “baby weight” is all in your head. You have no baby weight for only being pregnant 9 weeks. Most women don’t even know they are pregnant at 9 weeks or they are starting to think they are. Small frame or not.

I had the same problem and I miscarried at 11 weeks. I cut my portion size in half. If I got a burger, I didn’t get fries, etc. It worked and I got my 15 lbs off before I got pregnant again. Also, make them check your progesterone next time. I had to make them check mine. They usually won’t do it until you have 2 or 3 miscarriages. It was defiantely my progesterone, and I got on it and carried my son. He is now 2. Just a little advise. Sorry about your miscarriage. I know how disappointing it can be.

You likely more or less need to firm up by working out and it’s possible that the belly “pooch” is partly water weight. You also may find that you’ve been eating things that you shouldn’t (fast food, sweets, fried or salty foods) because of the emotions you’re going through you could be emotionally eating and not even realize it. I’ve been there and also ate myself into a stupor a few times. The flux in your hormone levels can also affect your weight a little. Also the stress and anxiety does strange things to our bodies including causing us to retain water.
The best thing to do is take care of yourself by eating well (at least every 3-4 hours have a healthy small snack), drink as much water as you can (I add Crystal Light or a lemon squeeze or I never drink enough). Do an ab tightening routine workout daily. I’ve used pilates, yoga, jogging/speed walking and Turbo Jam dvd’s to get in shape in the past after baby. Never underestimate the power of naps and sleeping enough at night! It lowers cortisol levels in your system and can really help to zap that tummy flab. It worked well enough to get me back into a size 4 and modeling within a month of both miscarriages.
If all else fails, see your doc to make sure your uterus has gone back down to normal size, they could always do an ultrasound. My older sister has had 3 children all within 3 years and was showing very early with the 2nd and 3rd so I’m sure you need a little time for it to shrink back down.
Good luck to you!
