Losing Weight After Baby: A few Simple Exercises For A Post Pregnancy Workout

Your wonderful little bundle of joy has arrived, now it’s time to focus on losing weight after baby. So what’s a good post-pregnancy workout for you to do?

Make sure you consult with your doctor about which exercises will be right for you for a post pregnancy workout; especially if you had special health problems or complications with the birth. You may not just be able to jump right back into jogging, but it’s likely that you can at least do something. Here are just a few of the many exercises your doctor may recommend as safe for losing weight after baby:

Kegel Exercises

Kegel exercises involve pulling your pelvic and other related internal muscles “up and in”. After birth as everything has been a “little” stretched and the muscles may be loose these exercises are especially important.

To do Kegel exercises properly, when you are going to the bathroom sometime, try practicing starting and stopping urine flow. If you can do this, you’ve found and can properly use your Kegel muscles. It’s not a good idea to stop your urine flow routinely, but it’s a good way to practice a few times while you are actually learning where your Kegels are, how to exercise them, and how to “pull up and in” properly.

The rest is easy once you know how to do this. With an empty bladder, lie down on the floor, flat on your back, and pull up and in, just as if you were stopping urine flow, hold the contraction for three to four seconds, and release. Do this up to 10 times, several times a day. You can also do them sitting, which means they’re very convenient to do when you’re sitting in traffic, sitting at your desk, etc., several times a day.

Walking

Walking is another great exercise you can do that doesn’t take any equipment (except for maybe a stroller or pram) and can be very enjoyable, especially since it’s something you can do with your baby. To begin easily losing weight after baby, simply make it a point to get out and walk for up to an hour a day with your baby. You don’t have to do the hour all at once, either. You can break it up into smaller segments, but just get out and enjoy the fresh air. And be a proud mom pushing your new baby in your pram or stroller.

Pilates and Yoga

For losing weight after baby, you may have to begin these with some modifications, as you may not be able to do your usual routine straight away. However, basic Pilates and basic yoga will strengthen muscles and increase your flexibility at the same time, thus ensuring that you can get and stay in shape.

And by the way, don’t worry too much about focusing on your abs, at least at first. Simply losing the extra weight is enough to begin with, especially since you may need to give yourself time to heal if you’ve had stitches or any type of surgery, or even if you’ve had a separation in your ab muscles because of the pregnancy itself.
